Progress Coffee began, in 2004, as a small café tucked in a warehouse on Austin’s east side long before any mid- or high-rises dotted the sky. Progress became the trailblazer for the area and a community gathering spot for those who lived and worked in east Austin. It became an eclectic mix of artists, musicians and designers mixed with original east side residents.
During the time as a café, we lived the pain of sourcing consistent high-quality roasted coffee for several years. In 2009, we decided to roast our own coffee in order to provide stability in offerings. We sold our original cafe in 2013, but ten years later in 2023 we converted our beloved roastery space into a welcoming café and beer garden. Progress Austin, Cherrywood, has once again become a community hub welcoming our neighbors into a cozy place to hang out.
We were busy in 2023 as we also welcomed Progress Buda into the fold. We had many friends and family moving south that it made sense to bring this type of gathering place to them. We opened in the fall just east of IH 35 and are blown away by the reception we have received from the community of Buda. We look forward to fostering this connection for years to come!
